Things all got a bit much for a lot of people last night (April 1st) inside the Capital FM Arena, as The Wanted brought the UK leg of their Word Of Mouth world tour to a close in Nottingham.
I’ve never seen so many people with make-up running down their cheeks in one room before – crowd and band (minus the make-up, but the tear streaks, yes) alike!
It was difficult to gauge whether people were merely sobbing their hearts out and screaming at the top of their lungs because they were so overwhelmed and incredibly excited to be in the same room as The Wanted (as well as support acts Elyar Fox and The Vamps of course), or because it might (most probably, it would seem – just read on) be the last ever time the band will perform in the UK together.
Once they complete the US and Canada leg of their tour, which they’re off to do next week, The Wanted are apparently going to “pursue personal endeavours” – whatever that means.
Last night’s gig definitely felt like a reluctant goodbye, with various look-backs over the band’s career and reminiscing about personal highlights, in between belting out their biggest hits, and their own favourite tracks too.
A statement on the band’s website read: “The band wants to stress to their fans that they will continue on as The Wanted and look forward to many successful projects together in the future.”
Contrary to that though, at different points, Tom, Jay and Nathan all said that this’d probably be the last time they would perform in the UK as The Wanted.
In a fairly emotional climax, Max explained that he wanted to take the opportunity to tell fans that this was NOT the band’s decision and they’d try everything they could to come back.
The outspoken, Manchester-born lad then proceeded to rather emphatically launch into their ‘anthem’, We Own The Night.
Duh, dun, derrrrr! Intriguing…
S’ok though boys, all is not lost! I’m already near to wetting myself with excitement and anticipation of Andi Peters announcing you as the first act confirmed for The Big Reunion 2024! (Andi, make it happen! I believe in you.)
