WRITING ABOUT YOURSELF IS ALWAYS a bit CRINGE ISN’T IT, BUT HERE GOES...

HEY, I’M TOM WATTS. I’m A RADIO PRESENTER, VOICEOVER ARTIST, AND EVENT HOST, IN THE MIDLANDS, UK.

I host THE DRIVE SHOW ALONGSIDE CLAIRE CHAMBERS, ON CAPITAL FM ACROSS THE MIDLANDS, WEEKDAYS 4-7PM.

you can also hear me from time to time covering the capital weekender, in the mix on a friday and saturday night, across the uk on the capital network and capital dance.

IT ALL STARTED AT UNI - I STUDIED BROADCAST JOURNALISM AT NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNI - AT THE STUDENT STATION, FLY FM [NOW FLY LIVE].

I got involved as much as i possibly could, initially reading the news and producing shows, but then progressing into presenting my own shows, curating the playlist, producing imaging, and helping to run the station as deputy station manager.

by the end of first year, i’d been nominated for best newcomer at the national student radio awards, and the following year, i won silver in the best male category, as well as team accolades such as best station and best imaging.

around the same sort of time, i won the hits radio’s student star talent search, winning the chance to present four shows on the national station, which lead to covering lots of other shows across the schedule.

september 2012, just before starting final year of uni, was when i joined capital to host the weekend breakfast show across the east midlands.

(i didn’t just bin off uni at this point, i wasn’t bold enough to believe i wasn’t going to balls it all up - and my parents would’ve killed me - so i did uni monday to friday, and capital on saturdays and sundays.)

in july 2013, Claire joined me at the weekends, and then only a few months later in october 2013, we moved to the weekday, drivetime show, monday to friday, 4-7pm. got all of that? good.

it was very cool to be recognised as one of the ‘brightest young stars in radio’ by the radio academy, featuring on their esteemed 30 under 30 list in 2016.

i’ve been lucky enough to interview lots of artists over the years, including Becky Hill, joel corry, rudimental, gorgon city, jess glynne, years & years, and Zane Lowe, TO NAME JUST A FEW.

getting out of the studio and in front of a live crowd is another passion of mine. we’ve had a lot of fun hosting on-stage at Leicester Music Festival, Fusion Festival and Birmingham Pride. as well as corporate events across the midlands such as the best bar none awards in both nottingham and leicester.

i’m always looking to learn and pick up new skills, so am currently teaching myself to dj, and have just completed a course to start working as a voiceover artist.
